"I grew up and studied on the East Coast of Nova Scotia, Canada, where the landscape is wild and rough. I also studied abroad in Scotland, the land of moss, fog and Fairies. These two places drive my imagination like no other. The humor of the people, the creeping, slithering, hopping animals of the sea and the rich textures of landscape all find their way into my work. The work I create is strongly influenced by a desire to animate inanimate objects. This is an aspect of my work that defines my style and is particularly apparent in my Exhibition work.
"I start with simple (usually only functional) clay icons such as salt and pepper sets, or teapot, cream and sugar sets. Then, I make them relate to each other in a more visceral way as people relate to each other. The work I make is low fired, red and white earthenware, and employ a variety of hand-built and thrown techniques. Rich and somber texture glazes are contrasted with bright, shiny glazes." -Alison Feargrieve, artist
