Each component of this jewelry is handcrafted using time honored techniques borrowed from the wonderful glass artists of the Isle of Murano. Millefiori canework lends itself so well to polymer clay. The canes themselves can take up to two weeks to design and construct. Each element of the cane is pieced together like a puzzle, reduced, sliced and cured to form the bead. The "Twirl" series, a line of kinetic jewelry, incorporates this canework with the modern edge of sterling silver bezels. Each piece is completely reversible and has components within the piece that spin to reveal another design or pop of color.
"I have been creating with my hands most of my life and worked in polymer clay for the past twelve years. A 20 year career as an accountant has given me the skill set to operate a successful craft business and the organization and math interpretations are evident in my artistic style. My fascination with versatility of the medium brought about a book, "Polymer Clay Creative Traditions," authored by me and published by Watson Guptill Publications. I have co-authored several other books and released an instructional DVD entitled "Millefiori Story" produced by PageSage Productions. I have appeared on several television shows, including The Carol Duvall Show and Beads, Baubles and Jewels. In my quest to give back to my community I am currently the president of the National Polymer Clay Guild and travel the country teaching and speaking about this wonderful medium. I reside in West Virginia with my two wonderfully creative children, Maria and Max and very supportive husband, Greg." Judy Belcher
