"My work is inspired by the folkart of the world, a childhood traveling the world, and pop culture. Color and elements of surprise factor greatly in creating these pieces designed for daily use, but with humor in their function.
My interest in faces stems from the impression a human face leaves on the mind, the memory. To recall a face is to recall a feeling, a frozen expression of delight or sadness. The fired ceramics becomes a hardened shell of these recollections." Anita Griffith
All pieces are made of white earthenware and decorated with underglaze and glaze, featuring primary colors and use of bright reds. Objects are constructed using a combination of wheelthrown, coiled, and slip cast parts, with lots of handbuilding and appliqué to add surface interest to the forms. All pieces are functional. |
